It’s all hands on deck at Bungie for the launch of Marathon in just over a month from now on March 5. The problem being that Bungie has another game, Destiny 2, that players have invested in for a decade now, at Bungie is not being terribly forthcoming about what’s coming as of yet.
Bungie began talking about a Destiny 2 roadmap last fall, something that was fairly common in the years before this, mapping out the game’s future. Hell, at one point they announced three years of expansions at once.
Now, however, the clock has been ticking, and we are now a month into 2026 without that roadmap arriving. Yesterday’s TWAB had no indication of when it was arriving.
Previously, my sources told me that Shadow and Order, the midseason update of the Renegades expansion era, will be delayed due to Marathon, given that it was set to come out March 3, with Marathon launching just two days later.

Because that obviously has to be officially announced, I cannot imagine it will not be alongside the fabled roadmap, which now has to be released in the next month. There are unconfirmed rumors (that I can also not confirm) that the Shadow and Order delay could be as long as two months, according to a seasonal clock that’s reportedly been unearthed. That would be eyebrow-raising, given that it’s supposed to be just three months from the launch of an expansion to the Major Update, and just six months until the new expansion itself. Now we’re talking about a five month gap just for a probably-not-that-big-update. One fundeamntal question here is that if Bungie was simply doing the two expansion, two Major Update plan that was previously announced, why is mapping this out for players taking so long? What’s changed?
I have been reassured by Bungie that Destiny itself is not going anywhere. There’s no plan to kill it off if Marathon is a hit and needs more resources devoted to it. If anything, Marathon surging would very much help Destiny by keeping Bungie afloat and relevant among Sony studios.
But it is easy to feel lost at sea as a Destiny player right now. The state of the game is playing these shorter expansions, hopefully finding something in them to farm for a time, then being thrown into these long gaps with little to do besides weekly events here and there. I’d also argue loot changes have made farming way, way easier than before, so it’s easy to dip in, get what you want, and dip out. That may work for players, but it’s not ideal for Bungie.
Destiny 2 players want reasons to keep showing up. They want to get excited about what’s coming and know that the future is brighter than it might seem. For some, that may just mean more cool-looking expansions, but I think what everyone truly wants is an indicator that Destiny 3 is coming and that Bungie is in this for the long haul. But no, don’t expect that on the roadmap.
