With the launch of Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake looming, we’ve been graced with a lovely new launch trailer for the game.
Unlike the amazing Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, this release features the first two games in the Dragon Quest series.
The reason for this is a purely narrative one, as the third game acts as a prequel to the events of the other two.
That’s a big thing for these new remakes, as the original trilogy was a bit uneven in terms of how the story fitted together. With these new remade versions, there is a lot more going on when it comes to linking all the stories, with new content being a part of that.
I’ve already played and finished both parts, and my review will be up shortly before release. I can say that this is a similarly special remake.
This is because the third entry in the Erdrick Trilogy has always had the most attention given to it over the years, with the SNES version getting a lot more extra content.
This is not to say that the recent remake of the third Dragon Quest wasn’t astonishing, because it really was, but that there’s more to these two new remakes than just a visual upgrade.
That aside, with the Erdrick Trilogy being front and center these days, I really hope Square Enix graces us with a third Dragon Quest Builders game.
Each entry followed its respective mainline numbered entry, and after Dragon Quest Builders 2, I had hoped we’d see a third game to complete the set.
Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake is released on October 30 for PlayStation 5, Switch 2, Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
