EA is releasing rankings for the top offenses and defenses in College Football 25 on Thursday.
Expect to see the teams atop the ESPN Power Index dominating the top of both lists. The rankings EA releases will be based on entire units, but it’s the stars that truly drive those top teams.
Having played an early version of the game, I can tell you that none of the player ratings were final. Here is a good idea for players who could be rated 99 overall when EA College Football 25 launches.
Here’s a spoiler: don’t expect quarterbacks to be rated higher than a 94.
Travis Hunter
During our preview of the game, we had the opportunity to speak with the cover athlete and Colorado Buffalos’ two-way star. He was very humble and excited to play the game for himself.
Having used Colorado in my first game, I can attest to Hunter’s electrifying speed on both sides of the ball. His potential is undeniable, as he is unlikely to be ranked lower than fourth on most mock drafts.
In fact, there is a possibility that he could even ascend to the No. 1 spot with a stellar season in Boulder. During the 2023 season, Hunter had 57 receptions for 721 yards and 5 TDs; receiver isn’t even his best position.
As a corner, one of the best in the nation, Hunter had 31 tackles, five passes defended, and three interceptions in nine games. If he’s not rated 99, he’ll almost certainly be in the high 90s.
James Pearce
The Tennessee Volunteers might not be one of the top-rated defenses in the game, but it won’t be because Pearce’s talents have been ignored.
Some have Pearce as the No-1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, a testament to his potential. 2023 he compiled ten sacks, an interception, and two forced fumbles as an edge defender.
Expect to see him get his respect in College Football 25’s early player ratings. He is a dynamic athlete, and any rating below 92 would be unfair.
Will Campbell
While not the sexiest positions, the offensive lineman are often keys to victory on Saturdays and Sundays. LSU’s Will Campbell is widely considered the best O-lineman in the 2025 NFL Draft.
According to Keith Sanchez of the Draft Network:
“Will Campbell is an offensive tackle prospect who has started since his true freshman year, garnering experience playing against some of the premier edge rushers in the SEC. Campbell has primarily aligned at LT for the Tigers and has been a reliable high-level starter for LSU. Campbell has a great combination of strength, power, and tenacity that makes him a physical force as both a run blocker and in pass protection. As a run blocker, Campbell does a good job of showcasing first-step quickness/explosiveness. Combined with his frame, he generates good overall power to move defenders.”
Campbell’s role in protecting key players cannot be overstated. He was instrumental in providing the primary protection for the 2023 No. 2 overall pick, Jayden Daniels.
In 2024, he will be tasked with safeguarding Garrett Nussmeier’s blind side in both real life and in College Football 25. When all is said and done, he might just be the best player in the nation.
