We’ve almost come to the end of Epic Games’ big holiday giveaway. The Fortnite publisher is giving away 17 games this Christmas season, beginning all the way back on December 13th with the Destiny 2: Legacy Collection.
More recently, Epic has given away some absolute gems like The Outer Worlds, Ghostwire Tokyo and Ghostrunner, as well as more divisive titles like the Saint’s Row reboot, which was widely panned by critics and gamers alike.
Today’s free giveaway falls into the former category. A Plague Tale: Innocence was one of my favorite games of 2019. The game is set during a mysterious rat plague in Medieval France as players guide young Amicia and her little brother Hugo through a dramatic adventure as the two are hunted by a ruthless Inquisition through an even darker version of 14th century Europe.
It’s very much a story-driven game, but a combination of stealth and special abilities keep you on your toes, and while you’re almost always smaller than your enemies, you have plenty of tools at your disposal to escape and even sometimes fight your way through. It’s absolutely worth playing for the terrific story, gorgeous graphics and soundtrack, and interesting take on Medieval France and the plague.
And hey, it’s free!
