One of the better Gundam Battle games from the PlayStation Vita era will be remastered and released on Switch and PC this May.
The original Gundam Seed Battle Destiny, released in 2012, was a solid entry in Artdink’s Gundam Battle series, which began on the PlayStation Portable.
However, in this case, Gundam Seed Battle Destiny was the first game in the series to be released on the PlayStation Vita. The jump in graphics was no small feat back then, especially for a studio as small as Artdink once was.
The work done on this game also laid the groundwork for the excellent Macross Delta Scramble, which was also on Vita, and for the various Macross games on the PlayStation 3, such as Macross 30.
This time around, we are getting a remastered version of the Vita game that not only uses Unreal Engine but is also developed by B.B. Studio rather than Artdink.
For reference, Artdink’s last major Gundam Battle release was SD Gundam Battle Alliance, which I thought was pretty good and also used Unreal Engine.
The shift away from Artdink in this remaster is curious, though. I’m sure the final game will be fine.
I’d love to see some of the older PlayStation Portable or even Nintendo 3DS Gundam Battle games get remastered, but I am guessing the graphical leap would be too costly from a development standpoint.
One additional interesting thing is that Gundam Seed Battle Destiny Remastered isn’t coming to PlayStation, which is a bit strange considering the game started out on the Vita.
Released on both PC and Switch, you can already pre-order Gundam Seed Battle Destiny Remastered on Steam, and it will be released on May 22.
