Another Monday, another New York Times Strands puzzle for us to solve. We have words to uncover, a grid to fill in. This wasn’t the hardest of these puzzles I’ve done, but it definitely stumped me for a bit. Let’s dive right in!
Strands is the newest game in the New York Times’ stable of puzzle games. It’s a fun twist on classic word search games. Every day we’re given a new theme and then tasked with uncovering all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram that spans two sides of the board. One of these words is the spangram which crosses from one side of the grid to another and reveals even more about the day’s theme.

Clue: Things you have in the end — after a trip pr a dinner out, at the bottom of a glass, etc.

Today’s Strands Breakdown
Finding the remainder, to me, is a part of long division which left me feeling rather horrified. I hate long division. I don’t want to find the remainder or do any of that nonsense. That’s why god invented calculators! But after looking for math or division words, I came across RESIDUE and then DREGS and TRACE. At this point, I knew where the spangram would go and worked backwards, uncovering LEFTOVERS. The last few words were tough to uncover even with everything else plugged in, but eventually I found VESTIGE and REMNANT and last, but not least, SOUVENIR, which still feels out of place for this puzzle’s theme. I’m left with a completed grid. Sometimes you end up with more than the dregs, after all.
