We have a back and forth battle in Netflix’s Top 10 list right now, a push and pull between Joe Rogan’s new comedy special, Burn the Boats, and British teenage murder mystery, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder.
Previously, Rogan unseated A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder from the top spot, but now she has taken it back from him. It’s not super surprising given that comedy specials are so short and it’s easy to blow through them quickly. And with the top 10 list done by watch time, well, there you go. Rogan’s hour-long special has already been watched by most of his fans.
The most popular podcaster in the world has drawn some ire for his ‘anti-woke’ routine, some accusing it of simply just…not being that funny. It has only four critic reviews in, all negative, and audience scores stand at a 56%, so no superfans there to skew it really high. Or it was just okay for them.
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder continues a stellar run, as it’s pretty tough to reclaim a #1 spot after falling. I have previously said that this kind of performance combined with a low cost means almost certain renewal from Netflix and the BBC here as a joint production. Plus there are two more books and a novella to be used as ready-made source material to continue the story on. I would expect a season 2 announcement for A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder in a week or two here.
There are very few new additions to the top 10 list, one is the licensed series Fire Country, a CBS series that is now showing up on Netflix. The, there’s Love is Blind Mexico as the global spin-offs of Netflix’s most popular reality series continues. I’m not sure how many it’s up to now, three or four.
Looking ahead to August 2024, Emily and Paris season 4 is coming. Well, Part 1 of course, as this is Netflix and they want to break it in half. Part 2 will be there a month later in September. Before that there is also the final season of The Umbrella Academy that launches on August 8, ending that saga once and for all. Those are probably the biggest ones for Netflix, but it’s impossible to count out the documentaries or reality shows or comedy specials that end up near the top with an explosion of often surprise popularity.
