Fortnite has started to tease out its “Wrecked” theme for Chapter 5, season 3, and that includes the brand new image above.
The theme was always known to be post-apocalyptic in nature, but now with this teaser, I am willing to declare that something very, very obvious is going to happen: A crossover with Furiosa, the new Mad Max prequel.
We already know that the apocalyptic video game is getting in on the action with skins and maybe even a location, but given the spiked armor and “NITRO DROME” setup here, which just screams Mad Max, it makes me think that this crossover is coming, even if no, that is definitely not Furiosa in that picture. There is also currently a giant sandstorm in the game that very much resembles the famous sequence from Fury Road.
Oh, and did I mention that Furiosa and Season 3 come out on the same day? May 24? Yeah, okay, come on.
If that’s the case, the obvious picks for skins from that film would be Anya Taylor-Joy’s Furiosa and Chris Hemsworth’s Dementus. And if they are doing a Furiosa tie-in for the film, it is also not outside the realm of possibility that they could be doing actual Fury Road characters as well. Maybe Furiosa has a Taylor-Joy and a Charlize Theron variant. Maybe Tom Hardy’s there. Hell, maybe Mel Gibson shows up as OG Max, who knows.
It is just impossible to me to believe that Fortnite is launching what very much looks to be a Mad Max-based season on the day a new Mad Max movie comes out and that is not going to be related. Whether that’s a battle pass skin or something sold in the shop later, I don’t know, but I would be positively floored if I was wrong. But unlike the Fallout crossover, this is still speculation, and I haven’t even seen any leaks yet indicating this is the case.
A cool thing to do would be to true in a whole bunch of apocalyptic fiction here, although between Mad Max and Fallout, that’s certainly two of the major ones. Could be time to get Joel and Ellie in there from The Last of Us? Albeit their wasteland is a bit more green. Oh and hey, didn’t a Planet of the Apes movie just come out? That world is pretty destroyed too, huh.
Anyway, I will say I told you so when Furiosa hits. Cannot wait to see the film itself either, which is supposed to be incredible.
