StationPC has launched PocketCloud Portable NAS which it describes as the world’s first truly portable Network Attached Storage device. However, they may have been beaten to the race by the UnifyDrive UT2 which I reported on last year, but it’s not always about being first and the StationPC PocketCloud is now live adn fully funded on Kickstarter.
PocketCloud’s makers claim that it redefines data storage and backup devices by offering an intuitive, compact and powerful way safeguard data files anywhere at any time. According to StationPC, PocketCloud provides “a seamless and user-friendly data management experience.” The device has been designed to be as compact as possible as well as being simple and less bulky than conventional NAS systems.
PocketCloud is aimed at photographers, content creators and anyone else who needs to back up and store files securely without using large and stationary NAS setups. Unlike traditional NAS devices, which often require extensive configuration, PocketCloud makes the process simple with a one-click backup feature.
Using an intuitive interface on an LCD with a navigation knob, PocketCloud lets users navigate options and monitor the progress of backups easily, whether the user is in the field or working from home. To ensure maximum reliability, PocketCloud uses a modular design with dual M.2 NVMe SSD slots. This system allows for secure, on-the-go backups and an additional layer of protection when docked back at home or in the office.
PocketCloud’s modular backup structure keeps data safeguarded in separate locations. The flexibility of using smaller SSDs also makes it easier to choose optimized storage options with a choice of capacities. Users can back up their data on the go with PocketCloud and seamlessly create a duplicate copy using the Dock when back home or at the office. StationPC claims its modular backup system ensures maximum data security with minimal effort.
Durability and performance are at the core of the PocketCloud’s design. An aluminum alloy shell offers efficient heat dissipation alongside a fan-cooled system. Two long-lasting and replaceable battery provide up to 6 hours of continuous operation and a standby time of up to 20 days. For those seeking an additional layer of protection, optional accessories provide enhanced grip and shock resistance.
Users can choose between cloud-based and local backup options, ensuring flexibility with data management. PocketCloud supports secure remote access, enabling collaboration with remote teams while keeping full control over stored data. Whether it’s used as a shared data hub or a private storage solution, PocketCloud aims to adapt to a variety of needs without compromising security.
With transfer rates of up to 800MB/s, photographers and content creators can store and sync large files in real-time, providing uninterrupted workflows during production shoots. PocketCloud aims to provide a cost-effective way of storing important data and memories without getting bogged down with technical complexities
