It may not be a gaming smartphone, but gamers will welcome new information on the Samsung Galaxy S24.
The latest leaked details on the Galaxy S24 specifications concern the screen. Popular tipster Ice Universe expects the three new flagship smartphones to have a higher sampling rate on the screen with a response time that is ten per cent better than the previous S23 display.
The touch sampling rate is different to the screen refresh rate. The latter determines how often a screen is updated in a single second. Faster gives you a smoother experience, but slower requires less battery power. This is where an adaptive refresh rate can be a useful feature
Touch sampling determines how often the display is checked for a finger touch, a stylus tap, or a dragging movement. The faster the sampling rate, the more frequent the checks are, and the smoother the experience is.
Gamers prefer to have the highest touch sampling rate and display refresh rate as possible for the best gaming experience. Contrast that with eBook readers, where very little changes. A refresh rate as low as once per second with less frequent checks is a better combination is suitable. While the Galaxy S24 will not be focused exclusively on gaming, it will be shipping with the latest hardware. The sheer volume of units sold will encourage game developers to optimize their titles to run on the S24 platform.
As such the increase in sampling rate will be welcomed.
The Galaxy S24 family, including the S24 Ultra and S-Pen, are expected to launch at the upcoming “Galaxy Unpacked” event as part of the new Galaxy S hardware to be announced on January 17th.
