Nomad, in case you don’t know the brand, makes some of the best iPhone cases and Apple Watch bands around. And now, they’re joined by two new models which glow in the dark. But they’re limited-edition, so they may not stick around for long.
This is not Nomad’s first foray into luminous wearables, having already made a Glow Sport Band for the Apple Watch. Which is why the new model is called Glow 2.0.
Nomad’s Sport Band is made of fluoroelastomer rubber which is thick enough to be durable and strong, but soft and pliable, feeling good on the skin. It uses a pin-and-tuck closure system not unlike that on Apple’s own Sport Band, but the band has vents, like the Nike Sport Band. Like both of those, it’s waterproof. Apple’s bands are softer on the skin, but this feels reassuringly tough and solid.
In daylight, it is a pale lime green that’s understated but eye-catching. Turn off the lights and its luminous quality works well. Nomad says this one is three times as bright as the earlier Glow Sport Band. It looks great.
That earlier Glow was also a limited-edition product and it sold out quickly, in hours rather than days. The Sport Band comes in two sizes, between them offering compatibility with all Apple Watches, including Apple Watch Ultra. It costs $60.
Then there’s the iPhone case. Nomad makes a range of cases and folios, some with sublimely tactile Horween leather. Here, though, the glossy back plate is sumptuously bright and handsome. It gleams a slightly darker lime green than the band. It’s unmissable.
Like other Nomad cases, there’s good drop protection—Nomad claims eight feet—and the cunningly contoured protective bumper is part of that and means you are less likely to drop it in the first place. It’s MagSafe-compatible and works with wireless charging.
There are other strong points to this and other Sport Cases from Nomad, including anodized aluminum button covers that, unlike some other brands, fit perfectly on the iPhone’s buttons beneath.
In the dark, the glow is brighter than the Sport Band and as with all luminous cases, glows brighter and for longer, the more exposure it’s had to light.
The case is on sale now for $50 and both the band and case are available from nomadgoods.com. Don’t expect them to hang around for long.
