Realme GT 7 Pro Review: An Ambitious Leap

Realme GT 7 Pro Review: An Ambitious Leap

The Realme GT 7 Pro is the first Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered smartphone in the Indian market. But being the first can be tricky because it sets benchmarks—more so when it is the successor to a well-rounded performer like the Realme GT 6. I’ve had the new Realme flagship for over a month now, and it has improved over time with the company addressing feedback and fixing issues.

Marketed as a phone that offers “unmatched performance that exceeds all expectations,” here’s what you need to know about the Realme GT 7 Pro.

What’s there to like

The Realme GT 7 Pro comes in two color variants: Mars Orange and Galaxy Grey. I have the former, and it looks fantastic with the subtle pattern on the back. It’s one of the few phones I recommend using without a case because the rear panel doesn’t attract smudges and is easy to clean. The phone features flat sides with slight curves on both the front and back, making it comfortable to hold. It’s IP69 rated for resistance against dust and pressurized water.

The new Realme flagship features a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass 7i protection. It is claimed to be an energy-efficient ECO display to deliver better battery life.

Out of the box, the display offers a natural tone, but you can opt for a more vivid look from the settings. It’s a good panel for streaming supported HDR10+ and Dolby Vision content. The display is sharp, with a 1.5K resolution and a pixel density of 450 ppi. It remains legible even in direct sunlight.

The Realme GT 7 Pro is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, paired with 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB or 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. Its benchmark scores are just behind the iQOO 13 on AnTuTu. While it doesn’t reach the advertised 3 million AnTuTu score, it’s not an issue because the phone is snappy in day-to-day use.

Realme has fixed the issue where the phone was getting uncomfortably warm when running benchmarks. It still heats up during stress tests, but not during regular usage—and that’s what matters to most people. For reference, it ran Genshin Impact smoothly at high settings. The phone also features Frame Plus for frame interpolation and AI Super Resolution for enhanced graphics, both of which work well.

The Realme GT 7 Pro features a triple rear camera setup, led by a 50MP primary sensor. Photos shot in daylight offer a good dynamic range, sharpness, and vibrant colors. The 3x telephoto camera delivers similar quality and excels at clicking excellent portraits, although the processing sometimes leads to overexposed results.

The phone runs Android 15-based Realme UI 6.0, which is more polished, fluid, and cleaner than before. It includes trending AI features like AI Ultra Clarity and Sketch to Image, as well as practical tools like Touch to Share for easier data transfer with iPhones.

Battery life is another highlight of the Realme GT 7 Pro, thanks to its 5,800mAh battery. It lasted me an entire day during moderate use. The global variant comes with a larger 6,500mAh battery, which would ideally last through a day even with heavy use. The phone supports 120W fast charging, allowing it to charge from 20% to 100% in just 30 minutes.

What’s not to like

There are a few things to keep in mind when going for the Realme GT 7 Pro. The 8MP ultrawide camera is a weak link in what is otherwise a great feature set. It struggles in low light and delivers average results even in bright daylight.

I also experienced inconsistent color tones when switching between lenses in my initial testing. But this issue seems to have been resolved with a recent update.

Additionally, Realme promises three years of OS updates and four years of security patches—one year less than its direct competitor, the iQOO 13. While I prefer Realme UI over iQOO’s FunTouch OS, this is something to keep in mind if you plan to use the phone long-term.

Realme GT 7 Pro review: Verdict

The Realme GT 7 Pro starts at INR 59,999 for the 12GB + 256GB variant, while the 16GB + 512GB model costs INR 65,999. At this price point, there’s very little room for compromises, and this is Realme’s most ambitious flagship to date.

A similarly powerful and versatile phone is available for INR 5,000 less in the form of iQOO 13, which also features a superior camera system. Consider it before deciding on your next phone.

That said, the Realme GT 7 Pro is a good choice if you prioritize top-tier performance and a smooth user interface. It also offers a great display, reliable primary and telephoto cameras, and excellent battery life with fast charging.

Pros:

  • Performance powerhouse
  • Good display
  • Great battery life with superfast charging

Cons:

  • Ultrawide shots are average
