Samsung just held its Q1 earnings call, on April 30. In it, there were intriguing comments about what changes will be coming to the Samsung Galaxy Watch series, and future folding phones.
In the course of the call (transcribed here at Seeking Alpha), Daniel Araujo from the MX division. Araujo explained that “we plan to sustain flagship centric sales with a successful launch of the new S25 Edge and continued strong sales of the S25 series,” he said
There may even be different form factors for Samsung phones. Daniel Araujo commented, “As for new form factors, we believe that beyond the form factor itself, it’s essential to ensure a level of product quality and usability in real-world scenarios that’s aligned with market demands and customer expectations. We are reviewing products with new form factors with a focus on securing a meaningful competitive advantage in performance and quality.
The call also went on to discuss future wearables.
“For wearables, we will expand our market presence with a strengthened premium experience while expanding our lineup across all price segments. We plan to launch a new Galaxy Watch with an innovative design and enhanced health-related features,” Araujo explained.
It’s hard to tell if this means an all-new hardware design or tweaks to the existing look. But “strengthened premium,” says that the higher-end of the line will be important.
And at the very least the “enhanced health-related features,” as Samsung puts it, indicates that there will be new and/or improved sensors to provide more health improvements. Let’s remember that the Galaxy Watch already measures blood pressure, something Apple Watch has yet to match.
There were more hints in the call, referring to the brand’s folding phones, saying that “performance, design and durability” are coming. This doubtless refers to phones like the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, expected to be released later in 2025.
And just as the reference to wearables mentions the line-up will be across multiple price segments, so the section on folding phones mentions, “We plan to strengthen our product lineup in order to create new demand and expand our affordable customer base,” which chimes with reports of an upcoming folder at a lower price. Since every folding phone so far has been expensive, this is a great development.
The call also, unsurprisingly, mentioned tariffs. “I believe this is one of the most important questions due to the rapid changes in policies and geopolitical tensions among major countries, it’s difficult to accurately predict the business impact of tariffs and established countermeasures, Samsung said, in answer to a question.
