For eager foldable phone and wearable buyers, there is one day left to register for Samsung’s pre-launch discount.
The pre-pre-order deal was released a few weeks ago and offered Galaxy fans the chance to reserve a yet-to-be-released device. Doing so will net people a “reservation gift” of $50 that will be discounted from the final device price when it’s time to pay.
On the promotional website, Samsung mentions that buyers can also save $1500 when one of the new gadgets is pre-ordered after they’re announced. The website reads like you must to sign up for the reservation gift to get this extra $1500 off, but I don’t think that’s the case.
I suspect the $1500 saving is related to enhanced trade-in prices and bundle deals. It may be the case that people who claimed their reservation gift are entitled to better trade-in prices, but I don’t see Samsung doing that. The company will want as many people pre-ordering devices (before reviews go live) as possible, so any deal it launches will be available to everyone.
Samsung is running an enhanced trade-in deal right now, which values some old phones at surprisingly high prices. The most you can get is $750 a Galaxy S23 Ultra, which isn’t worth it considering the phone has years of software support left, alongside new AI abilities. But the Galaxy S21 Ultra is valued at $550, while the Galaxy S22 Ultra nets a $600 valuation. The Fold 3 is worth $300, while your Note 20 Ultra will put $450 in your pocket.
What will be interesting to see is if these change at all. I can’t see the company offering much more than $550 for a Galaxy S21 Ultra considering it sells for under $300 on the secondary market. But I can see it upping its iPhone trade-in prices. For example, Samsung values the iPhone 15 Pro Max at only $600, less than the Galaxy S23 Ultra. There is some room for movement here.
