Starting today, players can finally start signing up for the Blue Protocol: Star Resonance English closed beta test (CBT). The closed beta test application period will last from today until August 14 and the actual testing period will run from August 15 until August 20. Applications are open for players in North America, Europe, and South America. The game is slated for a global free-to-play launch this year across both PC and mobile.
Since this is a closed beta test, that means there will be a cap on how many players are allowed entry and all characters and progress will be wiped after the testing period. According to a press release I received, slots for the testing period will be “randomly allocated based on survey responses.” However, interestingly, players will be able to make in-game purchases during the testing period, but there are no details on what will be available for purchase.
The nice thing is that anything you spend during the CBT, will be noted and converted into in-game currency when the game officially launches at a rebate rate. I’ve never seen a process like that before, but it’s an interesting idea. You can find more details on that here.
Blue Protocol: Star Resonance CBT
We don’t have any details on how much of the game will be available during the CBT period, but giving players almost an entire week with the game is promising. Hopefully that means more than just an introductory area to mess around in. I’m planning to sign up and check it out for myself so I can report back with impressions next month.
I originally wrote about Blue Protocol several years ago when it was unveiled the first time and have been curious about the game ever since. Hopefully this new re-launch has a brighter future than the previous incarnation under its new publisher.
Since then, the anime-style MMO-like subgenre is definitely quite a bit more popular. Between games like Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, and Tower of Fantasy—just to name a few—there is absolutely an audience out there.
