Stunning 2026 Car Caper ‘Over The Hill’ To Hit Xbox, PS5, Switch 2

Stunning 2026 Car Caper ‘Over The Hill’ To Hit Xbox, PS5, Switch 2

Over the Hill, which is already making moves to become one of the most unmissable games of 2026, has celebrated 600,000 Steam wishlists with the announcement we’ve all been waiting for: it’s also coming to PS5, Xbox, and Switch 2.

The move, undoubtedly buoyed by PC player interest, is an incredibly welcome one from solo developer Funselektor. It announced Over the Hill in January, as a long-awaited spiritual successor to 2020’s stunning Art of Rally, swapping Group B-infused racing for an “ambient off-road exploration game” meant to be enjoyed either solo or with up to three friends.

Given the sheer brilliance of Peak — and the excitement already building around Big Walk, the next big thing from Untitled Goose Game dev House House, which also drops next year — Over the Hill could cement a renaissance for distant multiplayer gaming on a cozier level. The new trailer, celebrating its console announcement, speaks for itself.

If you’ve missed Over the Hill so far, there’s every reason you need to be the 600,001st wishlister (providing literally no one has added it to their wishlist between the announcement and now, which is hopeful at best).

As arguably the only game everyone’s dad will be interested in regardless of their age, Over the Hill puts you into a world of exploration and discovery, as you drive cars from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, and the journey is more important than the destination. There’s no rush to get anywhere — Funselektor creator Dune Casu himself drew on his experiences of living and developing the game in his own fully converted camper van in Canada — so the main focus is satisfaction, rather than completion.

Players can travel to diverse environments using portals and unlock new vehicles, upgrades, and customizations along the way. Like the best games, Over the Hill encourages you to travel off the beaten path, as there’s a good chance you’ll find something special. Failing that, the game promises plenty of great spots for its photo mode.

It’s no easy feat, though — while it’s not exactly encroaching on Mudrunners’ USP, Over the Hill combines realistic terrain to make every trip original and exciting in its own way, complemented by Funselektor’s purposefully minimalist art style, which he hopes to give a more mindful experience.

What’s more, PS5 and Switch 2 players who pre-order the physical version of Over the Hill can pick up either a Premium Standard Edition or Collector’s Edition, made in partnership with Serenity Forge.

Over the Hill Collector’s Edition includes:

  • PS5 or Switch 2 physical game copy
  • Window cling decoration
  • Embroidered patch
  • Lanyard keychain
  • Rocking dashboard car standee
  • Collar pin
  • Poster

I’m hitting 40 next year, and I’ll freely admit that I’m more excited for Over the Hill than I am for the likes of Grand Theft Auto 6. The clue’s in the game’s name, I guess; those ever-decreasing pockets of freedom we have — whether it’s because of work, kids, housework, or existential ennui — are all the more special when you can spend meticulously planned time among three other early middle-agers facing the same inevitabilities of life.

It’s already stressful enough to agree on a date, never mind an hour. Having a relaxed game to sink into with good mates is a true blessing, and I for one hope Over the Hill delivers on its promises.
