With the release of Super Robot Wars 30 nearly four years ago now, it’s about time we had a new entry in the long-running mecha tactical role-playing series.
The latest teaser trailer for Super Robot Wars Y (shown below) features an initial roster of units from Getter Robo Arc, Combattler V, Aura Battler Dunbine, Mobile Fighter G Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury (Season 1), Majestic Prince, Macross Delta: Passionate Walküre and Code Geass Lelouch of the Re;surrection.
These are also only the initial unit reveals, and it’s clear that there will be more announced further down the line and closer to the game’s release.
The inclusion of Witch from Mercury is nice, though, as the last game I saw the Gundam Aerial featured in was the underappreciated SD Gundam Battle Alliance as a DLC unit.
The return of Dunbine is also not surprising, considering that the toys’ popularity is still sky-high in Japan. I will also bet fairly confidently that we will see a Kingdom of Na-colored Bellvine at some point.
As for the game itself, apart from the lovely battle animations, it’s not clear whether Super Robot Wars Y will revert to linear type, or take the pick-and-choose setup used in Super Robot Wars 30.

What is confirmed is that Super Robot Wars Y will be given a Western release on Switch, PlayStation 5 and PC, via Steam.
Now, the likes of Super Robot Wars V, X, T, and 30 did also come Westward, but it’s clear that Super Robot Wars Y has proper support for a Western release, and that makes me very happy indeed.
Anyway, we have another mainline Super Robot Wars game on the way, and it’s already looking great.
