The Acolyte’s Carrie-Anne Moss Gives Her Thoughts On Its Cancellation

The Acolyte’s Carrie-Anne Moss Gives Her Thoughts On Its Cancellation

The idea that The Acolyte still could return for season 2 if Disney changes its decision persists in the minds of fans and sometimes, even the cast itself. The more time passes the less likely that seems, and it already seemed extremely unlikely from the start given the cost/viewership ratio of that series, the first half of that being Disney’s fault explicitly.

Many members of the cast have chimed in, and now, so has arguably the person who was the biggest name attached to the series, The Matrix’s Carrie-Anne Moss, who played a Jedi Master. She was asked about The Acolyte in a ComicBook.com interview, and was pretty chill about her role and the show and moving on after its cancellation:

“Yeah. I mean, I’ve been asked that question a lot today, and it’s funny because, you know, when being an actor, you’re in shows all the time that are canceled and it’s in the beginning, it’s kind of a bummer,” Moss said. “And then you just learn to not really be invested. You can’t be, it’s a protection mechanism.”

Moss goes on to say that well, she died, so she wouldn’t come back anyway. But given the fact that so much of her time in the series was in flashbacks, it does not seem impossible that season 2 would have brought her back in some capacity. As for how she found out the show was cancelled:

“I heard from, like, a dad at school, and I was already working on something else. So it’s sort of like, oh, okay. it was over already for me. I don’t know, maybe that’s… I’m glad you liked it though. Yeah, I, I really enjoyed doing that too.”

The range of reactions from Acolyte actors about the show’s cancellation has been pretty wide:

  • Lee Jung-jae – Wanting to see a second season despite being dead.
  • Amandla Stenberg – Thanking fans while addressing the racism and harassment she dealt with.
  • Rebecca Henderson – Agreeing with the narrative that this cancellation rewarded parts of a toxic fanbase.
  • Manny Jacinto – I think he just posted a heart emoji.

Periodically, the #RenewTheAcolyte hashtag still trends online as a core group of fans try to get Disney to reconsider, but I simply do not think it’s in the cards. Disney Star Wars is sort of a mess more generally at the moment and again, they spent way, way too much on this series, more than they could have ever hoped to justify with essentially any amount of viewership for a show almost entirely disconnected from the Skywalker era. If they were going to do this, it needed to be much cheaper with expectations set much lower.
