Thankfully, The Lincoln Lawyer got to air all of season 3 in one big binge, rather than season 2 which was split up in Netflix’s annoying new release pattern. As such, it managed to stay on top of Netflix’s top 10 list for longer than it would have, most likely. But now it’s been dethroned.
The Lincoln Lawyer has fallen to #2 behind the True Crime documentary, This is the Zodiac Speaking, which is about, you guessed it, the Zodiac killer. It’s a three episode miniseries chronicling the chase of the code-writing killer who was never caught and famously the subject of David Fincher’s excellent Zodiac movie. Sadly, that is not on Netflix (but Fincher’s other serial killer endeavor, Mindhunter, is, and is one of Netflix’s best series).
This is the Zodiac Speaking is effectively a movie broken into three parts, given the 49, 44 and 42 minute runtimes of the episodes, which makes it just two hours and fifteen minutes. Easy to sit down and watch them all. Don’t expect some sort of huge reveal at the end that they finally identified the guy for sure.
As for the rest of the list, former #1 Outer Banks is already down to #5 with its half season. The other offerings inside the top 5 are the newest episodes of Love is Blind and Escape at Dannemora, a prison break drama starring Benicio Del Toro, Patricia Arquette and Paul Dano, based on a true story. It’s eight full episodes. The catch? This series is actually from 2018, and has only just been added to Netflix. I’d never heard of it before this, but it’s highly rated with an 88% critic score and an 86% audience score. I don’t know how this one slipped under my radar, but I really want to check it out now.
The rest of the list still has Nobody Wants This at #6, performing incredibly well and renewed safely for a second season. Reality/docuseries Car Masters: Rust to Riches, The Comeback: 2004 Boston Red Sox and I Am A Killer take the next three spots. Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story is hanging on at #10.
I very much doubt that Zodiac is going to stay in the #1 spot for a while given that it’s two hours total and people will move on fast. I don’t know if I’ll watch it or just watch Fincher’s Zodiac again, which is actually longer.
