The Next iPhone Update Is About To Fix A Key Usability Feature

Did you update your iPhone to iOS 26 yet? If so, you’ll have seen the big changes it brought, from the new Liquid Glass design to the new features. Among them was a redesign to the screen that shows up when you’ve set an alarm. But the new look brought a potential problem, that’s about to be fixed.

The new design brought easy usability in the form of bigger buttons. So, when an alarm goes off, the onscreen button to snooze the melodious interruption to your sleep was handily enlarged.

The problem was, so was the button to stop the alarm outright. And the two were right next to each other. You might say, it was a recipe for potential disaster.

Accidents can happen if you’re almost completely asleep, after all, and unless you regularly wake up before your alarm sounds, you definitely will be when it goes off.

The good news is that the next big software release for iPhone, iOS 26.1, which has now reached its second developer beta, addresses this issue head-on.

The large, tappable bright-orange Snooze button remains the same, lozenge-like and sitting just above the stop button.

The stop button has changed, however, into something much less easy to activate by accident. Instead of something you can tap, it has become a lozenge panel with a button on the left that you need to move to the right across the words, “slide to stop”.

In other words, even if you tap it by accident, you’ve done no harm and nothing will happen. The alarm will just keep going until you focus on whichever outcome you want, tap to snooze or slide to stop.

Worth noting that this is a beta release, so it’s entirely possible Apple won’t ship it when iOS 26.1 is released, likely at the end of this month or early November.

That said, it seems to make a lot of sense, so let’s hope Apple keeps it in place.
