The first big update to the latest iPhone software, iOS 26, is about to be released. Called iOS 26.1, it is just hours away, it seems. If it’s felt like it’s been a long time coming, I hear you, but this time, it’s really on its way.
There were reports that it had been delayed, though that’s unlikely, given the schedule of beta releases up until now. There was something of a red herring in the shape of rumors that an interim version, iOS 26.0.2, could arrive first, but that never materialized. If it had, it would likely have been confined to bug squishes and security fixes.
Apple iOS 26.1 Release Date
So, now iOS 26.1 is about to land, and will work on iPhones from the iPhone 11 onwards. Apple likes to launch its software on a Monday or Tuesday, and I’d expect this Monday, Nov. 4, to be favorite. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his latest Power On newsletter has also commented on iOS 26.1.
“Apple plans to roll it out to users this week, and I expect that to happen on Monday — barring any last-minute delays, which have occurred in the past for various reasons,” he said.
I haven’t heard of any delays, but if there are, then Tuesday, Nov. 5 is a shoo-in, I’d say.
Apple iOS 26.1: What’s In It
The beta releases have told us that Apple will put a toggle to adjust the impact of Liquid Glass in certain parts of the interface, switching it between clear and tinted. There’s also an updated alarm interface, designed to make it harder to accidentally turn the alarm off when you only mean to snooze it.
“Apple’s first notable update to iOS 26 doesn’t bring a whole lot of new stuff… 99.99% of users won’t notice much of a difference,” Gurman says. “What stands out most is the stability. It’s more reliable, with fewer bugs,” he goes on.
Stability is always good, of course, and there are plenty of users who will be glad if minor irritations and lapses are straightened out.
