Hey, folks! I hope you had a fantastic weekend and that you’re raring to go for the week ahead. I don’t know about you, but it felt like a pretty quiet couple of days in which nothing at all monumental occurred in the world. At least we’ve got the New York Times’ word games to offer us a sense of stability.
Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers are coming right up.
How To Play Connections
In Connections, you’re presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like horror movie franchises, a type of verb or rappers.
There’s only one solution for each puzzle, and you’ll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them.
Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is typically the hardest one to deduce. The purple group often involves wordplay, so bear that in mind.
Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you’re incorrect, you’ll lose a life. If you’re close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you’re one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to swap.
If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with the help of some hints, and, if you’re really struggling, today’s Connections answers.

My 14-game win streak came crashing to a halt.
DOMAIN made the yellows pretty clear, as did FIDDLE and RECORDER for the greens. But then I got stuck.
I thought for a second that FLAG and FLARE might have something to do with warning signs, but nothing else made sense with them. With no real indication of where to go, I took a random guess with the four words on the left side of the grid: FIGHT, PROCESSOR, PYRAMID and CONE. I swapped out FIGHT for CHAIN since PYRAMID and CONE are shapes and that was the only other one that kind of made sense, but again I was one away. A couple more speculative guesses later and it was game over.
Traffic flare didn’t click for me, as I was only thinking of FLARE in the sense of a flare gun. I probably should have figured out the purple group, though. Tough game today.

P.S. For no good reason, I recently remembered about the existence of B*Witched, an Irish girl group that put out some solid bubblegum pop tracks in the ’90s. This was my favorite of theirs.
