Today’s ‘Wordle’ #1107 Hints, Clues And Answer For Sunday, June 30th

Looking for Saturday’s Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here:

We have at last arrived at the end of June. It’s been a good month. I’ve felt clear-headed and motivated, kept to a pretty good exercise routine, though I need to recommit to earlier bedtime as the times I’ve gotten up early for early morning hikes have been some of my best days. It’s just hard to teach an old night owl new tricks.

I went all by lonesome to Kevin Costner’s new epic Western Horizon: An American Saga this weekend and enjoyed it quite a lot, though it’s definitely a peculiar film that relies too much on seeing the second part later in August. I’ll have a review of that up soon. For now, be sure to check out my weekly Weekend Streaming Guide below:

And now it’s time to solve this Wordle. Let’s do it!

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Hint: Ol’ pal.

The Clue: This Wordle has a double letter.

Okay, spoilers below!

Can you solve today’s phrase?

The Answer:

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

Yesterday’s Wordle was a horse of a different color, but today’s was trickier still. I only guessed in four out of sheer, dumb luck.

My opening guess—SKATE, as in roller or ice—left me with no boxes at all and, I later learned, over 400 remaining solutions. Ouch! Worse still, CHOIR was a lousy second guess. All my boxes remained grey—though I had a pretty strong suspicion that the Wordle would end with a Y and have a ‘U’ in the second box, given no other vowels remained.

That hunch was bang-on, and PULLY gave me the exact letters I assumed I’d get (though I had hoped for a surprise hole-in-3). From here I could think of all sorts of words that fit this basic format: BUDDY, BUGGY, MUDDY, MUGGY, etc. etc. etc. I just picked one that I hoped would at least narrow down my options, and ‘B’ and ‘D’ were both pretty common letters in what I could think of. To my great surprise, it was the Wordle! Huzzah!

Competitive Wordle Score

I get 0 points for guessing in four, but I beat the Bot today. It guessed in five—CRANE / SLOTH / DUMPY / FUDGY / BUDDY—and now I want Muddy Buddies. Those are delicious. Anyways, one point for me!

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “buddy” has its origins in American English, likely derived from the word “brother” in the mid-19th century. Here’s a more detailed look at its etymology:

  1. Brother: The term “buddy” is believed to have originated as a variant of “brother,” used in a familiar and affectionate sense.
  2. Variant Forms: In the 19th century, “brother” was colloquially shortened to “brudder” in some dialects, which then evolved into “buddy.”
  3. Influence of Other Languages: There is also a possibility that the word was influenced by similar terms in other languages. For example, “boetie” or “boet,” an affectionate term for brother in South African English (from Afrikaans, derived from Dutch “broertje” meaning little brother).

By the early 20th century, “buddy” had become a common term for a close friend or companion, particularly in the United States.
