President Donald Trump has shared an AI-generated video showing a transformed Gaza Strip featuring golden Trump statues, luxury beachfront developments and bearded belly dancers — raising questions about the evolving intersection of AI, political messaging and content moderation in a complex digital diplomatic landscape.
A high-profile example of AI-generated content being deployed in sensitive geopolitical contexts, the 30-second video, posted to Trump’s Truth Social account today, could potentially establish new precedents for how world leaders visualize and communicate even controversial policy proposals.
Trump’s AI Gaza Video
The AI-generated clip contains text that includes “Gaza 2025” and asks viewers “What’s Next?” and begins with scenes of destruction before transitioning to a reimagined Gaza featuring Dubai-style skyscrapers, luxury hotels and pristine beaches, before numerous surreal elements are portrayed. These include a towering golden statue of Trump, children carrying golden Trump balloons, buildings emblazoned with “Trump Gaza,” and Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lounging poolside with cocktails.
Elon Musk, who heads Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), also appears several times in the video, eating on a beach and throwing dollar bills into the air as apparent Tesla vehicles drive through the streets. Throughout the video, a song plays with the lyrics: “Donald’s coming to set you free, bringing the light for all to see, no more tunnels, no more fear, Trump Gaza’s finally here. Trump Gaza shining bright, golden future a brand new light. Feast and dance the deal is done, Trump Gaza number one.”
As for its origin, Sky News reports that the video “was first shared online in early February by accounts with no apparent connection to the White House” before being reshared by Trump’s official account.
The video release follows Trump’s Feb. 4 announcement of a controversial plan for Gaza, where he stated that “The US will take over the Gaza Strip and we will do a job with it too. We’ll own it.” Trump described his vision as turning Gaza into “the Riviera of the Middle East” and his plan would reportedly involve relocating Gaza’s approximately two million Palestinian residents to neighboring countries.
Widespread Criticism
The surreal video has garnered widespread criticism, with even Truth Social users responding with mixed reactions. Direct quotes from commenters include: “I hate this. I love our president, but this is horrible,” and “I don’t think that’s funny or cool. Sorry. Am I missing something??? I hope it’s a joke, a bad joke.”
Another user commented: “You’re doing great Mr President. But don’t let it get to your head. God put you in that position for His Glory, not yours.”
Similar sentiments are also found in Reddit’s Conservative subreddit, where numerous users have commented expressing their concerns.
Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has stated that “President Trump is an outside-of-the-box thinker and a visionary leader who solves problems that many others, especially in this city, claim are unsolvable.”
The Broader Picture
The rapid evolution of AI-generated political content poses new challenges for technology platforms and regulators alike. While social media companies tackle policies around deepfakes, they face more complex questions as the technology evolves, in addition to the way and context in which it is used.
This incident also raises questions about whether existing content moderation frameworks are sufficient for handling increasingly sophisticated AI-generated political content — especially as AI serves as both a creative tool and a potential source of controversy in an already complex online environment.
