Yet Another Massive Switch 2 Leak Reveals Dimensions And Screen Size

Nintendo Switch 2 leaks are being unleashed with the force of a fire hose at this point. After yesterday’s surprising revelation that Genki is producing Switch 2 accessories based on molds of the real console it somehow acquired on the black market, notoriously accurate leaker OnLeaks has released a 360-degree video of the next-gen console alongside detailed dimensions.

This time around, the leak comes courtesy of 91mobiles, which published the information in direct collaboration with OnLeaks. The short video below gives us a 360-degree view of the Switch 2. To my eyes, this matches up almost perfectly with the video Genki has on its Switch 2 accessories page, which shows various products like grips and Joy-Con chargers interacting with the new console.

The button placements are identical. That sleek black finish, with the subtle splash of powder blue and orange on the Joy-Cons looks identical. Ditto for the U-shaped kickstand. With the OnLeaks video, however, we do see proper labels on the face buttons. The striking similarity of these two leaks certainly adds some level of validity.

But I have to say, if this color scheme shakes out to be real, I’m surprised — and very relieved — that Nintendo is going with a sleeker, more “grown up” look at launch. How far it has strayed from the purple lunchbox! Down the road, however, I’m positive we’ll see a healthy palette of console and Joy-Con color options for those who want a brighter splash.

Nintendo Switch 2 Screen Size and Dimensions

Where this leak gets even more interesting is in the detailed dimensions of the console. OnLeaks has shared the following numbers, which, as suspected, make Switch 2 larger than the launch and OLED models of the original Switch.

For the overall dimensions, we’re allegedly looking at 271mm x 116.4mm x 31.4mm with the Joy-Cons attached. Compare this with the launch model: 239mm x 102mm x 14mm. Overall the system seems a bit thicker, likely to accommodate for a more robust cooling system.

The Joy-Cons also get a slight increase in size: the report says the new controllers measure 116.4mm x 40.8mm x 31.4mm, compared to the original Joy-Con dimensions of 102mm x 35.9mm x 28.4mm

Things get really exciting when we look at the leaked screen size. OnLeaks claims it is 8.4-inches, but I firmly believe that’s the glass panel and not the actual display. An actual 8.4-inch display feels a bit too large for Nintendo’s playbook. After all, the massive Lenovo Legion Go 2 boasts an 8.8-inch display. I think a nice even 8” screen is likely. If so, it’s a screen real estate bump of nearly 30%.

Nintendo Still Has Cards To Play

Nintendo is taking its sweet time to talk about the Switch 2 in any detail, but I’m still excited about an official unveiling. To everyone saying that Nintendo has nothing left to reveal at this point, I’d argue that a console is nothing without its software and Nintendo will hopefully have loads to show on that front.

After all, it’s the games and the overall user experience which have repeatedly driven Nintendo’s under-powered systems to such massive success.

Plus, there’s still that mysterious “C” button to talk about. Is it perhaps used for AR? To connect the console wirelessly to its dock, perhaps? There’s bound to be some engaging “hook” that makes the Switch follow-up more than a spec bump.

Nintendo has promised a proper reveal of the Switch 2 before the end of March. In the meantime, Nintendo would like to distract you with this Lego Game Boy.
