Reports are suddenly coming in that Samsung has been forced to halt the One UI 7 upgrade that finally brings Android 15 to its phones. Galaxy S24s are due this now, ahead of other recent flagships. The upgrade was already months behind schedule, and so this latest news — if confirmed — will be a nightmare come true for the company. Given its unpopular delay, the upgrade process was already under intense scrutiny.
The long-awaited One UI 7 brings much needed security and privacy improvements to Galaxy flagships, but more critically its delay play into the clash between Pixel and Samsung, with Google’s phones seeing a much more seamless and efficient update process than other phones. This is not sustainable long term.
Android Authority reports that “Samsung has pulled the One UI 7 update from its servers worldwide,” with “a serious bug reportedly to blame for the halt.” This follows notable tipster @UniverseIce posting the news from Korea on X.
According to SammyFans, “this bug has currently only been spotted on the Galaxy S24 series. It’s not confirmed yet if the same issue is happening on other phones like the Galaxy Z Fold 6 or Galaxy Z Flip 6. Samsung is working quickly to solve the issue. Once the problem is fixed, the company will likely start rolling out the update again. Until then, users are advised to be patient and wait for the official news from Samsung.”
Samsung’s One UI 7 release is already bumping up against Android 16 and One UI 8, which is expected to see a faster launch than this current release. But with One UI 7 updates running through to the end of June at least, and Android 16 due in July, the schedule is becoming uncomfortably tight already, without this latest setback.
As SamMobile says, “this reflects poorly on Samsung, as the company couldn’t manage a bug-free release for One UI 7.0 despite months of testing in multiple countries. For the Galaxy S24, the company released six beta updates as part of the One UI 7.0 Beta Program. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Galaxy Z Fold 6 also received multiple beta updates, but Samsung wasn’t able to eliminate all the critical bugs.”
